I had the best time playing with old friends and meeting new ones at the Quilts on Plum Lane Quilt Shop. A very special THANK YOU to Donna Lillibridge for inviting me to do a trunk show at her shop during the Kumquat Festival in Dade City. There were ton's of people enjoying the beautiful day and the quilt shop was a beehive of activity.

VALENTINE'S DAY...........

While out and about yesterday I found this delightful primitve heart (measures 6 x 11 inches - (give or take a bit)....red, of course, with what looks like a love letter, and old pictures of who I want to think were sweet hearts!.......how romantic is that? It has some sweet annie and berries and it's all bundled up in tea stained cheese cloth....!

I thought it just might be fun to give this little cutie away to a special valentine!
So, here's how it will work - starting today, January 22 - until February 7th (I want you to be able to have this mailed to you so it reaches you Valentine's Day!)

To get into the drawing you have to purchase at least 1 pattern - (that's to get your name in the bucket) then for each additional pattern you will get 2 chances for each. i.e. 2 patterns gets you 3 chances!

But, there's more.....for anything you purchase out of the pantry...you get 5 chances per item.

So, who wants to be my special valentine?

The Pantry is full..........

Well, it's just January 1st, but I've been busy! There are new items posted in the pantry! It's not spring yet.......but I'm just getting run out of my home! So, while putting away some Christmas items today I decided that some will have to go. Quilts for sale, and I'll be posting more soon, oh dear, just check out the entire pantry!

ANOTHER BLOCK PARTY!!!

Good Morning,
It's time for another BLOCK PARTY! I will be working again this coming year with Quilts for a Cause, Inc. I have designed a block, that will be sent out to everyone that wants to participate. The deadline for signing up is January 5th. Please email me, piecemaker51@aol.com if you would like to participate.

I will also be looking for long arm quilter's that would be able to donate their time to machine quilt the quilts that we make. In past year's we have been able to make 3-4 quilts.

If your name is on the list, you will receive a pdf file of the block and instructions, deadlines, etc. Some of you could only make one; many of you had your own block parties and sent me 10-15 blocks.

(NOTE: please do not sign up if you are unable to complete at least one block. Time is important to all of us and sometimes we just can't do it all)

Cancer is something that has touched all of our lives.....I hope you will join me again this year for a cause that means so much to so many.

I will be back in touch with everyone after the January 5th deadline.

Well, I have to tell you that any aspirations I've ever minutely entertained of becoming a computer programer have gone totally out of my head! I've been working on my new website since last Friday after Lisa getting it all set up for me. My job is to transfer everything from the old site to this one.......easy, right? The old saying, "You've Come along way baby" just doesn't apply to this situation. It seems I take 3 steps forward and 12 back. I wonder if I'll ever get the hang of this......or if you'll ever see my new website? My hair is getting grayer by the day.

Please keep me in your thoughts......I'm having sewing withdrawals!

Don't forget to change your clocks back this weekend.

News update

A quick note to let you know that the Georgia Quilt Show was wonderful. Lots of beautiful quilts and fun students. We drove through tons of rain to get to Duluth, which wasn't a lot of fun, but the weather cleared up and turned cooler, which was such a delight for these Floridians!!!

The day before the show actually opened I taught a class on needle turn applique. They made a wallhanging size of Ring Around the Posies.

Opening day brought more students and shoppers. I didn't have my own booth to set up, but shared a booth with 4 other teachers/designers...It was an eclectic group to say the least...I do believe you will be able to see which end of the booth was mine. lol
It was great fun getting to meet other teachers. We all worked in the booth when we could...some of our husbands even kicked in when we were teaching classes.

I taught my color class next and then totally forget to get a group picture. I kept them pretty busy using about 1,000 fat quarters - building and rebuilding blocks that they would be proud of. (I apologize to all those students for not getting a picture!)

The trunk show came next and I wish you could have seen us traisping through the convention center with a couple of bigl dollies piled high with 90+ quilts. No pictures were taken during the trunk show either, but everyone said they enjoyed it. Curt had customers in the booth and told them about it and just before the last few quilts were shown, about 8-10 of them came in..........sorry they didn't get to see the entire thing.

The Cold Days class was next and what a hoot it was! I had them drawing their own snowmen and - well, you'll see by the pictures they had fun embellishing their own. Each one looked different.

Before I left I stated that I would be offering kits of any of the classes I taught while at the show. I left with 40 kits, but between classes and selling kits in the booth - Here's a list of what is available and the cost. It will be on a first come first serve basis, so let me know right away if you are interested.

Ring Around the Posies - 3 kits, $59.00 each

Gabrielle - 5 kits, $51.00 each

Cold Days - 3 kits, $65.00

The Bundling Board - 7 kits, $59.00

After 4 days at the show we left for the mountains and little R&R - The weather was beautiful and these "leaf peepers" had a great time taking over 300 pictures of all that wonderful color. I was told in two more weeks they would be even more beautiful...but, don't see how that could happen. Here's just a few pictures. Hope to share more as I find the time to get them uploaded.

Last, but not least I wanted to share with you that I have a new gal working on my new website. After almost 5 months I hope to have a website that I do work on. Lisa is laying the ground work and I'll be transferring everything over as soon as she can get it ready. Thank you so much for your patience during these months. I know you can still order the stuff already there, but nothing new is posted. I hope you'll enjoy the new improved website! Coming soon!!!!!

Good Morning! I'm excited to share a couple new patterns with you. Cooler weather and fall colors always makes me happy. The new covers should be ready soon, but you know I can't keep a secret very long when new quilts are coming your way. So, here's a sneak peak of the quilt projects...(I am unable to post them on my website because it's still under construction).

There will be a one quilt pattern - Rumble Seat - and there will be one bundled set which will include a wall hanging, a table rug and a rotary cutter holder.

Rumble Seat - 68 inches square - Stars and 9 patches come together with sashing between the blocks and around the blocks. It's finished off with blocks around the outside edge. It's easy and it's fun and uses scraps right from your stash! Pattern is $10.00

for the classes I'll be teaching at the Georgia Quilt Show, I found it was easier to take the fabrics down off the shelves and look through them. Of course, while doing that look what happened? Cleaned up shelves for me! Life is good!

Kendall, my 2nd cousin, wrote to me saying we were related, but we've never met. lol

Sheila, kendall's mom is my cousin and Kendall is her daughter. How fun to get a note from Kendall regarding this quilt which is about her gramma, (my Aunt Ree). Aunt Ree's Raspberry Jam has always been a popular quilt among my pattern line. I think the complimentary colors - purple/yellow - are what set this quilt off.

A name that fits......

So, what do you do when you make a quilt and don't have a name for it? A couple of ideas have come to mind, but then thought if I told you about the quilt and the story, perhaps you could help me with a name!??? If you have the name that's picked, I'll send you a free pattern and put your name in the pattern as having named it. However,

if I choose to go with the name I have already.........everyone's name will go into a bucket and a free pattern will be sent to the name drawn.

First let me tell you what the quilt is like.....Picture this in your mind -

8 Stars, 8 Nine Patches. Sashing between 4 large blocks with post blocks. Surrounded by different colored squares on the outside. All 6 colors were used, but the focal color is dark yellow(brown)/orange - or sienna.

And, here's the story -

My mom's oldest brother, Lorne, was the first one to leave the farm to go into the city to work. He was the first one to have a car in the family. It was a roadster with a rumble seat. He'd come home on the weekends and the 3 youngest children, my mom, uncle Morgan and Uncle Bob couldn't wait to be taken for a ride. Only two could sit in the rumble seat so they would hurry to see who would get to or who had to sit in the front with uncle Lorne. He always had what they called "coppers" to share with the kids so that they would have something for the offering at church on Sunday. (Coppers were large pennies).

My website is still being revamped, so I'm unable to post the news on the gazette page. And, I'm not sure when it will be up and running. It seems revamping wheels run slower than I expected. I hope to be able to let you know it will be soon and everything will be back to normal.

Night Flight Quilt Pattern

Christelle Taquet from France sent me these pictures today. She said, "These are pictures of what my son got for his 10th birthday. He picked the pattern and the fabrics from my stash himself. Every day he was over my shoulder to check the work in progress. It took 4 months because he wanted it hand stitch and hand quilt. It was 2 years ago and he still loves it."

I love sharing pictures of what all of you make from one of my patterns. You did a wonderful job Christelle and thanks so much for sharing with all of us. It looks like your beautiful kitty likes it too!

Practice, Practice, Practice....

While at PMW this year, I provided my students a way to practice their decorative stitches before they actually did them on their own Pin Cushion that we made.

I've had people write to me asking me what I used to do this......Lisa Bongean had a picture on her blog from PMW showing the fabric I used, but thought I'd also post it on my blog for you.

It's like the primer paper your little ones use in first grade to learn to write. Here's how to make your own with fabric.

1. I used tea dyed Osnaburg.... because that's what I had on hand. Of course it doesn't have to be tea dyed, or osnaburg, but it does work well.

2. Cut a rectangle piece, I think mine was 12 x 15 inches when I started out. - You can make several smaller ones if that works best for you. The idea is to just have a place to practice.

3. Using your ruler and a pencil, draw 3 lines 1/4 inch apart down the long side of your fabric. Make as many of these sets as will fit on the size you have made. Most decorative stitches require 3 separate lines to make them work, but if it only takes two lines, then just use two.

4. This is not necessary, but I did put the same size cotton batting on the back of some of these. Some you will see just the fabric with no batting. I'll leave that up to you. When you are making the pin cushions you'll have the wool, foundation fabric and batting on the bottom, so having these layers to practice with makes your final job easier. Stitching through all the layers is best, but there are times I've just made it through the wool and foundation fabric.

Good Evening everyone,
It seems that the glitch with my website is more serious than I thought. The bad news is the old program that I've been using for many years has all of a sudden become corrupt and can no longer be used. The good news is I will be sporting a brand new website as soon as I can make the change over to the new system. With the help from Shelly who owns the new program, I hope it won't take to long. I'm told everyone will like this new format a lot better and it will be just as user friendly as the old site.

All the patterns in my line are either shown here in the photo's and/or on the Primitive Pieces by Lynda facebook page. So, if you are interested in placing an order, please email me at piecemaker51@aol.com and I can send you the total by email, or I can send you a paypal invoice. There will be no down time regarding purchasing the patterns you wish to have.

I love sharing pictures of what other's make from something I've created. It's one of the most exciting part of what I do as a designer.

A year or so ago I met a delightful couple at Quilts on Plum Lane in Dade City, Florida when I was there to sign my new book. Dolores purchased my Block Party and Moonshine Patterns. Dolores sent me pictures of both of the quilts she's made. Thank you so much Dolores.....you did a great job!!!

Sandy from New York wrote to me asking if she could have permission to enlarge the COLD DAYS templates because she wanted to make a pillow for her bed. First, thank you for asking. Second, I absolutely love the pillow Sandy......great job! Those guys are sure to keep the cold at bay!!!

My bird was sitting on ready very early last Wednesday morning to take me on the firstleg of my journey to PMW by way of Charlotte, NC....there was a short delay before heading west to Lees Summit, Missouri and 3 days of stitching, shopping,

eating, visiting with old friends and making new ones. It was a wonderful few days. Did I mention eating, and shopping?

Wednesday night was the opening ceremonies with our guest speaker, Jennifer Keltner
from American Patchwork and Quilting. Jennifer is such a delight and always has everyone laughing. She inspires us with wonderful quilts to view....matter of fact, if you haven't seen pictures of them, visit Lisa Bongean's blog. I wasn't able to take pictures of opening night, but Lisa has wonderful pictures she's shared with all of us. Scroll down the page to view the quilts Jennifer brought with her. The Doll class was shy two people that couldn't make it, but we had fun. This is the class picture and below are the various stages of everyone's doll. They have promised pictures when all body parts are stitched together and they are dressed!!!

There is usually stitching after hours in the hotel lobby and/or Rita's shop. Some of the gals just visit and some continue to work on their projects from the classes they take.

And, of course, the 3 days pass so quickly. It feels like you just get there and it's time to go home. The good byes are always the hardest for me. So, it's with lots of hugs, tears and promises to see each other again, when we leave.

Plans are already in the works for next year. I hope each of you can join in the fun. Watch the Quilter's Station website, mine too, for information. You'll see the projects posted for the 2012 event. Make plans to come play with us.

is one of my very favorite teaching events of the year. This will be my 7th? 8th? year. Rita Briner and her gals from Quilter's Station put on one of the most fun 3 day events ever. Stitching, shopping, eating, seeing old friends, making new ones, did I mention eating? Oh MY! The new spring patterns are complete. I received the covers yesterday from my VERY
favorite graphic designer, Chelsie from Hall or Nothing Designs. She's done a wonderful job capturing the idea behind each of their names.

Grampa's Saw Mill is a pieced quilt that measures 59 inches square.

Play Date Bundle - has two checkerboard quilts - one for a girl and one for a boy.
   The girls quilt is 50 inches and the boys quilt is 55 inches
   Plus - The Primitive Youngins Doll that so many of you have asked for. She's
    24 inches in length.

The Painted Lady - is a pieced butterfly quilt with pieced flowers and picket fence with
  a railing for some birds to sit. The birds are appliqued on. This quilt measures 76 1/2
inches.

Spring

Mother Nature hasn't been kind this winter to so many folks around the country...and even here in Florida we had more cold than someone with sand in their shoes likes! However, yesterday and today was just picture perfect as far as the weather goes....lots of sunshine, windows open and lots of breeze to blow away the cobwebs! The grass is getting greener every day and the trees are all budding like crazy. We can only hope that no more cold will come and turn all this great stuff upside down. The gold finches are still here and I'm trying my best to keep up with the amount of food they can actually eat! Sent the robins on their way up north with lots of rest and a full belly so be watching for them. Saw a Flicker for the first time on Friday and I've never seen any bird's wings (actually the underpart of their wings) as canary yellow as theirs are. I couldn't take my eyes off of him he was so pretty. Sorry, just got caught up in the moment there.

The reason I'm writing to first to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to my friend, Carol Crago for helping me out with some new quilts for spring. She delivered them to me Saturday morning. They turned out wonderful and I hope to show you all of them very soon. I'll be finishing up some borders this week, making backs for all the new quilts - there will be 4 and I'll be working on a surprize that will be introduced by me for the first time.

I hope everyone is enjoying some spring like weather and I'll be back soon to let you in on what's coming your way!!!

Good Morning!
It's a beautiful day here in Florida. Cool and just perfect to sit out on the porch with my first cup of coffee. The gold finches are here by the dozens. For such little birds they really do eat alot. A couple of days ago I posted that we said good bye to the robins and really felt they had left the area. But, sitting on the porch yesterday evening, another flock of them came for a visit. I have so enjoyed them visiting this year.

But, that really isn't the reason for writing this morning.........I just received some very fun pictures from LuAnn Leonard and Angela Brady. I've posted the pictures on the parlor room page of my website for everyone to see.

LuAnn sent me a picture of her Purl. My purl has several new cousins and I just know they will be as helpful to their maker's as mine is to me. Purl never lets me down.

Angela from Homespun Decor and Antiques in Ash, North Carolina sent me 3 pictures of samples she's made for her shop. The pictures are of The Bundling Board, Slim Pickins and a Tisket a Tasket. I spent a couple of days with the Cypress Creek Quilter's Guild on the west coast of Florida this week. Tuesday night I shared over 70 quilts at their monthly meeting and the next day taught a class. Aunt Ree's Raspberry Jam was the quilt they chose to work on and I was delighted to see some of them work with their own favorite colorways. I had the best time with these gals. Million Pillowcase Challenge - UPDATE

I was blown away when I received an email from Kathy B. who follows my blog. She was one of the people who signed up for the Million Pillowcase Challenge I talked about. When she didn't see another post regarding the deadline for this event she wrote to me and said that with the help of her two sisters they went ahead and made.......are you ready for this? 100 PILLOWCASES between the three of them. They are donating their pillow cases to a nursing home in their town where they all grew up and went to school...WAY TO GO LADIES (Kathy is in the middle of the picture!) I am so proud of what you have done and I will make sure American Patchwork and Quilting become aware of this.

So, now that we have been shown what can happen when we get to work.........please let me know how many you have made and where they will be donated by March 15th.
I will be sending in the total number to American Patchwork and Quilting the very next day.

Please also send me a picture of yourself or if you have a group making them.

FIRST WOOL CRAZY GROUP PROJECT

A great BIG "Thank you" to JoAnn Mullaly for all the inspiration she's given to the wool community with her wool crazy madness! The pictures above are from a wool crazy group project I've been involved in. Randee Kleinfehn created this particular group.

This piece will go on top of a wooden pantry box I've had for years, so when it's totally finished I will post a picture as well. There will be a few more decorative stitches added, but I couldn't wait to share what everyone has done.

The kitty in the pumpkin basket and the long floppy flower is what I started with. It was sent to Randy Kleinfehn who added the scarecrow and year. Randee sent it to Sharon Yeager, who added the house, pumpkin and flowers. I also think she added the moon and star...Sharon then sent it to Sandy Bessingpas who added the fall leaves and acorns...Then off to Sherri Falls it went who added vine and berries. Several of these gals did decorative stitches along the seams.

This entire project has been a blast! Working with these gals has been so much fun and just look at the wonderful prize I have. I will cherish it always. Thank you so much
Randee for starting this group project. I can't wait to see how it looks on top of my pantry box.

CORRECTION NEWS - A Little Porch Time Book

Good Morning Everyone,
It has been brought to the Kansas City Star's attention that corrections need to be made to the publication of their book, A Little Porch Time.

These are the corrections in the two Panels concerned – C & E.
Section C:
Cut the bottom right piece 17” x 8 ½”

Section E
E2: After making the Nine Patch strip, sew a strip 21 ½” to each side (not 21”).

Cut a strip of background fabric 1 ¾” x 24” (not 2 ¼” x 24”) to sew to the bottom of the zinnia/Nine Patch block.

E3: Cut the background for the sawtooth block 18” (not 18 ½”) x 20 3/4”, or if you prefer, piece the background with 2” strips along the left side and the top. After attaching the sawtooth strip, the block should measure 18” x 24”. Trim if necessary.

New Project for 2011.......who's going to join me?

Hello and Happy New Year! Normally I would be asking for volunteer's to help with a Block Party Project for cancer this year....but, Quilts for a Cause, Inc. asked me to design a quilt which would be made into a pattern to sell this year. It should be coming out very soon and I can't wait to share where and how you can order it. You've seen the quilt Carol Crago and I worked on.......so stay tuned for the how and where you can order the pattern and help out a cause that is so near and dear to all of our hearts.

Now, it's the beginning of a new year and I just know we can all help with another project. The American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine is still working on their 1 million pillowcase challenge. Although I'm not a quilt shop....I'd like to be a part of making their goal come true....so, who's with me? The pillow cases we make can be donated to local charities (you don't have to send them to me) and I'm thinking that for me I'm going to donate what I make to a local woman's shelter and/or nursing homes in my area.

The bottom line is that when you've made the pillow cases and they are delivered, I'll need a total of what you make so I can turn in the number to the American Patchwork site. (I know each person can go to their site and add their own, but I'd like to do this as a group) I've also added a button to the left of your screen so you can read more about this; you can download which pillow case pattern you'd like too.

The cut off date to sign up will be January 15th........please let me know if you'll be joining me for our first project of 2011.

As promised from the Home for the Holiday's Blog Hop........a new Christmas 2010 smile box is ready. I'm still trying to get the sewing room under control so we can once again gather for a Christmas Day dinner together. Of course, it's not an easy task because it's where I work, but I think I'll be ready when everyone comes for the day.

I've been working on a special project lately and it's not quite ready to share. Our weather here in Florida has been very cold early in the season so I haven't been able to finish it. There is only this week and next to get it completed for Christmas Day. I think most of you would appreciate it perhaps more than my family would so I'm especially excited to share it with you. I hope to have pictures to soon...........but, for now it's under wraps! Maybe a new smilebox is on the horizon?! Anyway, Merry Christmas to all of you from our family to yours! Hugs, Lynda

Home for the Holidays.....

HO, HO, HO and a Happy Home for the Holidays to all of you! ! This is the time of year when each day just gets better and better.
Thanksgiving - my most favorite FOOD holiday ever- was super! I hope you spent a wonderful day with family and friends like we did. We all have so much to be thankful for. I'm also very excited that you get to spend this morning with me....because today is my birthday! How fun is this to get a chance to post my holiday blog for all of you today?! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I've been having the best time watching each designer's post and all the fun comments you've made. I've saved everyone's projects for when I retire! I hope you are downloading all the wonderful projects and yummy cookie recipes too! It's exciting to hear you are enjoying the hop.

For the most part...........I do the decorating while others snooze here at our house!

Here in Florida we don't have the cold blustery days of winter like so many of you, but we do get chilly from time to time during the season. Keeping that in mind, I decided to share a friend of mine with you. His name happens to be "chilly" and he always shows up at my house much before Frosty does. I hope you enjoy making this small door hanger for your home.

Growing up in the south, I've learned to create the mood of Christmas. We don't have the snow on the ground, the snow laden tree branches, nor the really bitter cold that so many of you have. What we do have is a lot of sand in our shoes!

However, it's never prevented me from enjoying the holiday. Christmas happens to be my very favorite holiday so over the years I've collected Santas and snowmen and decorate every room in the house with trees and lots of twinkling lights. The trees range from 3 to 10 feet tall. Each tree is decorated with fun primitive ornaments I've collected as well. There are also animated santa's that hook up to the lights and move. I have fabric garlands made out of yo-yo's and some made out of plaid homespuns, just like the ones you made out of paper when you were a child except you stitch them together instead of using glue. Some of my favorite ornaments are the ones we've made ourselves. The more primitive they are the better I like them. The day after Thansgiving we go in search of the biggest tree we can find. We spend hours looking for that perfect tree and always come home with the right one! Some have been tall and skinny, some shorter and rounder - we call those "the Lynda trees"!

Many of you will have already seen this from last year, but we're just a few days shy of having the house all decorated for this season. Promise to come back in a few weeks....I'll have a new smilebox for you to see.

When we were first married we traveled between my folks and Curt's folks for the holidays, but when our children were born it was important to us for them to be able to be home on Christmas to enjoy their toys, so for 36 years I've been cooking dinner for our entire southern family. Depending on who is in town, there can be 18 to 26 people here on Christmas day and we always have a sit down dinner. My sewing room has a 10 foot table already so we add a couple 6 foot folding tables at each end and enjoy each others company. We usually make a wish and light the next one's candle while we do this. It's fun to hear everyone's wishes and see the lighted candles from one end of the table to the other. Mostly, it's just a very loud, funfilled day.

Holiday baking is always a fun affair here. We choose a day where we can all join together and make holiday treats to be shared with family and friends. My gramma's scotch shortbread cookies were passed down by my mom and are a must at the Christmas holidays and of course what's a holiday without homemade fudge. Rebecca loves to help in the kitchen and this year even Sarah will get in on the fun. Picking one treat to share was difficult and even though these are bars instead of cookies....I think because they are so easy to make you will enjoy making them for your family. What I've found over the years is that the holidays are in our hearts and not because of where we live. So, from our house in the south to yours, remember to enjoy each holiday as they come along. Right now Pa and I are on our way out the door in search of that perfect tree for this year! Happy Holidays to all of you and your families!
