A little humor for everyone.......

Good Morning!
Did you think I had left the planet?  It's certainly been awhile.  Let's see if I can get everyone caught up.


First, I want to share a picture of Charlene Aitken's Slim Pickins Quilt.  It's wonderful and I'm so happy to share it with all of you.  Thanks so much Charlene for sending me the picture.

I've been keeping myself very busy these days....either working in the yard, working on my new book, stitching on new quilts for patterns, designing new pattern covers, and even knitting!  You see, my little granddaughters moved to Tennessee.  I've always had them close by and  I really do miss them tons so keeping busy has been a really good thing!  

I know most of you are just about or even hotter than we are here in Florida.  I've been getting up very early to work out in the yard so that I can come back in the house and stitch where it's cooler.  

BOOK UPDATE:  My new book is coming along nicely and I'm so very excited to share it with you. My team with the Kansas City Star has been awesome! Mark your calendar for September!  I'll post pictures as soon as I can.  

BREAST CANCER UPDATE:  The breast cancer quilts have been coming back in.  The machine quilters have done a remarkable job and I can't wait to let you see them.  As soon as all the bindings are done I'll get pictures posted here on my blog and also on my website.  Although the blocks are the same, each one of the quilts have their own personality.

And, EVERYONE that participated on these quilts will have their name on all 4 of the quilts.  I will be posting the label that will go on each of the quilts soon.

I need your help now though.....It's time to name the quilts.  If you worked on the quilts, please send me the names you'd like to suggest.  There are 4 huge quilts so please submit at least that many names.    All the names will be posted and then you can vote on your favorites.    I will need the names by August 3rd.


NEW MAGAZINE PROJECTS:  I've been away from the Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine for the last two issues, but you'll see one of my pieces in the Winter issue, coming out soon and I'm working on a project for the spring issue. 


NEW PATTERNS:  If you haven't been to the website lately, you'll notice that Let's Ride and Winter (the snowman pillow case) are now listed in the patterns.  


Watch for Crow Gossip and the Penny Pouch....they will be coming soon!


Also, everyone keeps asking me about the wool crazy pin cushions...........I'm working on getting that ready for you as well.  Keep an eye on both the blog and or website for more information.  


I know for some of you summer is just about over and the kids will be going back to school.  It will be time to get back into the sewing room.  So many of the small items just mentioned can be made and shared with the special people in your lives for Christmas.  Trust me, it's not that far away.

Primitives of the Midwest is always a fun place to be.  I wish everyone could have been there this time as well.  Everyone was on their A-game and a good time was had by all.  I've put together a smilebox for you to view.  When I'm there having a good time I always forget that I've packed my camera....lol  So, there are not many pictures, but they are fun.  The gals that went will recognize some of the places we were and what we were doing.........enjoy!

Personalize a scrapbook design

Good Morning,
Yesterday around 8:15pm all 5 HUGE quilts, approx. 96x104 and 5 even bigger backs were completed for the Quilts for a Cause, Inc. "Block Party 2012" project.  I have to tell you this was a big undertaking this time around.  Because of your generosity in returning 552 - quarter blocks for this project - it took awhile to stitch them into quilts.  Thank you to Donna Phillips for helping me accomplish this task.  (We celebrated by having a wonderful lunch that included an adult beverage - a little premature, but very well deserved !)

I haven't posted pictures of the quilts because I want you to see how they look when they are completed - quilting, binding etc.  

If you worked on this project, I again need your help.  I would like you to submit a name and/or names you think these quilts should be called.  Since there are 5 quilts, you can submit 5 names that you like.  I will compile a list and post it for you to vote on them.  The top 5 names will be given to these quilts.  Now, I know you haven't seen them, but picture this in your mind.

Some of the quilts are lighter than what would be my normal style.
They are cheerful and although all 5 are the same color combinations - they each have their own personality because they have been put together in different patterns.
These quilts are going to be auctioned off for women's cancers research.
Keep the names short and spunky.
Have fun with this.

The deadline for submitting the names of your choice is June 15, 2012

Two of the quilts have been delivered to a local machine quilter and the other 3 will be mailed the first of next week.  A special Thank-you in advance to all the machine quilters that have volunteered their time for this project.

Katherine Christensen from Sorrento, Florida showed me her quilt today.  It's from my  Stars on a Tin Roof pattern.  Katherine made her quilt 15 blocks to accommodate a bed in her home.....It turned out lovely Katherine.  Thanks for sharing!

Good afternoon everyone!

First an apology for not writing sooner than today!  No excuses other than the ones everyone hears all the time........busy, busy, busy!

 

I do want to congratulate all of you on getting your blocks back to me on time!  And, to let you know that 552 quarter blocks were received!  I was astounded by the response and can't wait to show you what YOU have all done.

 

Because of the large number of blocks, pictures have been taken of all of them.....but, haven't been posted because of a time thing.  Everyone's name has been recorded and because the blocks were sent back in quarters your sections might not be in just one quilt......so everyone's name will go on each of the quilt labels on the back.

 

Right now, 5 quilts have been sewn together, kinda sorta...strips have been made with the blocks, and today I've started sewing them together. 

 

It does look like I will be needing one more machine quilter's.........if you know of one that would like to donate her time to quilting for this project, please let me know.  

 

As soon as the quilts are returned to me and bound I will get pictures of all of them up on my website.  Each quilt will look a little different and be quite large from the look of things. 

 

Thanks again for your help with this special "Block Party 2012" project.

A wonderful quilt for her son....

How exciting to get a picture from Rori Jensen today!  Here's a picture of her son's new quilt and what she said,

Hello Lynda,

I finished the graduation quilt for my son and presented it to him yesterday and posted pictures on my Facebook page.  He is graduating from San Diego State University today and we are so proud. 

I used the V-block ruler from Deb Tucker, for the stars,  and it worked beautifully.  I needed to add two rows to make it longer and I added some more connector blocks.  I am very pleased with the results and thank you for creating a wonderful pattern.  I can't wait to get started on the other patterns I have purchased from you.

He is graduating with a Social Science degree from San Diego State with a goal of teaching high school History, Economics, US Government and Geography.  I used Civil War Reproduction fabrics as that is is favorite time in history.

This quilt is called They'll be Coming Around the Mountain.  I love that you used tools that made this easy to make, that you added additional rows to make it special for him and especially love the look on his face.  A job well done Mom!  Congratulations to your son and I can just imagine how proud you are of him.
