New Book - "DECK THE HALLS"

This morning I sent out word about my newest book, Deck the Halls, to everyone on my email list.  Now I can share it with all of you.

My publisher, The Kansas City Star, will present this book to all of you approx. Sept. 15th.    I can't wait to get my first shipment in my hot little hand.  If you want to be among the first to have a copy, please pre-order by emailing me - piecemaker51@aol.com to reserve a copy..  I'll make sure you are on the list to have it right away.

The premise of the book is a time line.  So, come walk with me through the fall when I first start decorating for the Christmas holidays.  Hear about our family traditions and see quilts you can make to start your own.  To get you  started, a fall quilt called "Christmas Wreaths"  is the first you can make and hang in your home before Christmas, keep up all during the holidays as well.  If you are like me I get so excited about Santa coming so you'll be able to track his route by making a quilt called  "Santa's Route". We all know he brings "Christmas Packages"  so the quilt that will hang in my stairwell will showcase that.  What do you eat for Christmas dinner?  Gramma would have made "Christmas Goose"!  Having a quilt by that name seems only right!

Do you remember Chilly? He's in the book to introduce you to "Chilly's Big Brother" who is going to be the center of attention hanging on my barn wall in the kitchen.  He's so proud to be the focus of attention this year.  If you know the story about Chilly, you know he hid behind a tree forever!  And, of course, for so many of you he can hang well into spring  keeping you entertained until the last snow storm passes.

And, it always makes me sad that Christmas comes and goes so quickly.......so I hope you will walk a little further down the holiday lane......."Bridging the Gap" and "Behind the Log Cabin" is a reversible quilt you can have hanging around for the Christmas holidays, Valentine's Day and,  you bet, turn that quilt over for.........St. Patrick's Day.  

I love the idea that the quilts we all make don't have to be out of site just because a holiday comes and goes.

I hope you will travel with me through the seasons............Gee, you'll almost be ready for summer by the time you've made all the projects in this book.

I'll have to think of what will come next..............

A Special note I received today

Good Morning and Happy Labor Day,

It's the little things in our lives that always mean the most.  A hug, a thank you or just a smile is what can make my day.  This morning when I turned on my computer I received this note:

In May, I had sent you a picture of my son and the quilt I had made him for his college graduation and you featured it in your May 18th, 2012 blog post.  As a follow-up, I wanted to let you know, the quilt won a blue ribbon at the Monterey County Fair.

Rori certainly made my day today!  The quilt is beautiful, her son loved the quilt and now a ribbon to go along with it.  Life doesn't get much better!  Thanks Rori for sending me your email this morning and a big CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!

Blog Tour..........and so much fun!

Good Morning,
It's hard to believe that it's already September!  But, I must admit the fall color palette suits me to a "T"
and also a special gal I'm writing to you about this morning.  I first met this gal many years ago in Houston,
Texas, at the fall International Quilt Market.  She and her two sisters traveled from Canada to be a vendor at market.  The minute we met we felt like kindred sisters.  Having both been from the same country and our color palette being so much the same it was only right that we have been friends since then.  We've chatted and had lunch together at other quilt markets as well.  Only the miles separate us getting together to have lunch or dinner more often!  Thank goodness for emails and blogs!

Cheryl Wall of  "Country Quilts"  is the gal I'm talking about and she has so graciously asked me to be a stop on her new book tour.  The name of the book is "At Home with Country Quilts" and I don't know of anyone that does a better job than Cheryl.  Of course, I love her colors and the fun quilts that she makes.  There are 13 projects in her newest book.  Trust me you will have a very hard time deciding which one you want to make first.

I had to choose this particular project as my "to start" quilt from the book. I love stars and I  have the perfect quilt for this one to share a space with in my home.  I wonder which one will be your first pick???

It's been a very busy year here at Primitive Pieces by Lynda.  Not a lot of posting, but tons of work behind the scene going on.  Here's what I've been up to...

The Primitive Quilts and Projects Magazine, Winter issue........will have one of my projects in it.  It's an Advent Calendar to help you count down the days until Christmas.   If you haven't subscribed to this magazine you can do so by going to their website - www.primitivequiltsandprojects.com  Tell them I sent you.

If you are new to their magazine and missed out on all the older copies, the projects that I've had in the magazine in the past issues are now being offered as patterns.  Cold Days - the snowman table runner is listed on the pattern page of my website -

Crow Gossip - small wall hanging and/or table rug.  This can be done using all fabric with needle turn applique, or fabric background and wool applique.  You know the old saying......there are 3 ways of communication - Telephone, Telegraph and Telawoman.  But, I think these crows can hold their own too.

Penny Pouch - a great little ditty bag to hold your credit card when you go shopping.   In the magazine it was shown with dried flowers hanging on an old wooden shutter.  I think it would be a fun knitting needle holder as well.

The Crazy Bunch -  6 pin cushions made out of fabric and/or wool.  Crazy quilting has been around for a very long time.  It was my gramma's very favorite type of quilt to make.  Wool is very hot right now and everyone is making pin cushions.  Here's 6 you can make.  They look great in my wooden tool carrier.  You'll never be without a pin cushion when you are stitching.  They also make wonderful gifts for your quilting friends.

A little humor for everyone.......

Good Morning!
Did you think I had left the planet?  It's certainly been awhile.  Let's see if I can get everyone caught up.


First, I want to share a picture of Charlene Aitken's Slim Pickins Quilt.  It's wonderful and I'm so happy to share it with all of you.  Thanks so much Charlene for sending me the picture.  

                                                                    SLIM PICKINS

I've been keeping myself very busy these days....either working in the yard, working on my new book, stitching on new quilts for patterns, designing new pattern covers, and even knitting!  You see, my little granddaughters moved to Tennessee.  I've always had them close by and  I really do miss them tons so keeping busy has been a really good thing!  

I know most of you are just about or even hotter than we are here in Florida.  I've been getting up very early to work out in the yard so that I can come back in the house and stitch where it's cooler.  

BOOK UPDATE:  My new book is coming along nicely and I'm so very excited to share it with you. My team with the Kansas City Star has been awesome! Mark your calendar for September!  I'll post pictures as soon as I can.  

BREAST CANCER UPDATE:  The breast cancer quilts have been coming back in.  The machine quilters have done a remarkable job and I can't wait to let you see them.  As soon as all the bindings are done I'll get pictures posted here on my blog and also on my website.  Although the blocks are the same, each one of the quilts have their own personality.

And, EVERYONE that participated on these quilts will have their name on all 4 of the quilts.  I will be posting the label that will go on each of the quilts soon.

I need your help now though.....It's time to name the quilts.  If you worked on the quilts, please send me the names you'd like to suggest.  There are 4 huge quilts so please submit at least that many names.    All the names will be posted and then you can vote on your favorites.    I will need the names by August 3rd.


NEW MAGAZINE PROJECTS:  I've been away from the Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine for the last two issues, but you'll see one of my pieces in the Winter issue, coming out soon and I'm working on a project for the spring issue. 


NEW PATTERNS:  If you haven't been to the website lately, you'll notice that Let's Ride and Winter (the snowman pillow case) are now listed in the patterns.  


Watch for Crow Gossip and the Penny Pouch....they will be coming soon!


Also, everyone keeps asking me about the wool crazy pin cushions...........I'm working on getting that ready for you as well.  Keep an eye on both the blog and or website for more information.  


I know for some of you summer is just about over and the kids will be going back to school.  It will be time to get back into the sewing room.  So many of the small items just mentioned can be made and shared with the special people in your lives for Christmas.  Trust me, it's not that far away.
